Najib's Google Hangout ends in disaster...

How popular is prime minister Najib Razak? According to the recent survey by University of Malaya's Center for Democracy and Elections (UMCEDEL), his popularity rating stood at 58 per cent.

But judging by the number of dislikes received for a YouTube video of his first live interactive session on Google Hangout, the survey results could raise doubts.

Weeks after opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s own Google Hangout session, it was Najib's turn to host the live interactive session on October 3 to take questions from netizens.

"Google hangout is a new medium. Tonight we made history, to me this is very encouraging. In just one hangout like this, millions of Malaysians can watch and listen in to my message,” Najib had declared.

His hour-long session however saw him taking only five questions.

The recorded video for the #TanyaNajib session was posted on YouTube, and immediately drew thousands of 'dislike' votes. Not long after, the video was barred from public view and went into 'private' mode.

A screen snapshot showed the number of ‘dislikes’ stood at 1,409 and ‘likes’ at 605.

The video was later re-posted on YouTube by others. A posting on the YouTube channel of Astro Awani attracted 52,076 viewers at press time, with a whopping 13,037 viewers clicking ‘dislike’ compared to 332 who ‘liked’.

Another YouTube channel 'CliffyTRGx3' recorded 1,653 viewers, gathering 261 ‘dislikes’ against a mere 16 ‘likes’.

And naturally, the pages where the video appears are flooded with criticisms and snide remarks about Najib, such as why he had been refusing a public debate with Anwar, as well as over his absence this week during the budget debate in parliament.
